Bringing You the Softer Side of Dentistry
The Dream...
People who avoid seeking dental care because of fear or anxiety, have their mouth rehabilitated in few dental visits with no pain, no anxiety or stress and little or no memory of the visit later!
Most people are anxious to some degree by the prospect of a dental visit. However, for some other people it is extremely difficult or impossible to cope with the fear. The reasons for this fear can be numerous, usually due to a traumatic experience during childhood. This causes one to avoid modern dental care that most other people can receive and benefit from.
Dental phobia is quite different than simple fear of dentistry. The classic sign is "avoidance behavior." The afflicted person does everything to avoid the situation. This results in neglected mouths that are often painful. These patients sometimes have a low self-esteem due to unpleasant smile or oral malodor. This can be accompanied by diminished chewing ability and associated problems.
The associated future of a panic attack associated with a phobic situation include heart palpitations, feeling seek, nausea and vomiting.
If you are suffering from dental phobia, do not be embarrassed. It is not your fault. The good news is that IT CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY TREATED!
Dr. Blourchian and his caring staff take your situation seriously. We are here to help you, not judge you. Your comfort is our priority.
How We Can Help You
Our goal is to provide dentistry for you without pain, anxiety or fear. That is why we listen to your needs and keep you informed of all your options. We take time with you and use a couple of tools we have at our disposal:
Inhalation Sedation - This procedure involves a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) inhaled by patient through a rubber mask. This gas produces a feeling of well being and analgesia. Nitrous oxide is perfectly safe and simple to use. The effects of gas wear off quickly after the mask is removed. This is the only technique we use on children.
Oral Sedation - The use of oral sedative drugs (pills) has a long history in dentistry. This procedure involves taking a couple of pills one hour before your appointment. You will be completely relaxed and comfortable as you walk into the treatment room. When you go home, you will most likely take a long nap. When you wake up, you remember little or nothing about the treatment!
